In this beginner-friendly session, we will jump right into the core fundamentals of sewing. You will learn how to lay out a commercial pattern, accurately cut your fabric, and bring it all together at the sewing machine step-by-step.

What You'll Need to Bring

Required Pattern: Simplicity #59411 (Please purchase prior to class)

Materials: Your choice of fabric and matching thread

Tools: Your sewing machine and a basic sewing kit (fabric scissors and pins)

Homework: To make the most of our time together, please cut out your tissue pattern pieces before arriving at class!
Meet Your Instructor: Andrea Lautenbach When she's not teaching or costume-designing for local ballets, plays, and musicals, Andrea is a literal superhero! As part of a charity group where she frequently appears as Batgirl (alongside her husband, Captain America), Andrea brings energy, creativity, and years of theatrical sewing expertise to every class she teaches.

Class Policy
Thank you for considering classes at Family Sewing. Our classes require planning and preparation in advance including ordering materials and supplies, scheduling teachers and reserving our classroom space. When students request cancellations or reschedule at the last minute, it affects all of the above in addition to taking away a spot from someone who wanted to take the class.
We are unable to make exceptions to our policy listed below. That includes reasons of illness, travel, or work. If you are unable to attend a class at the last minute, please consider offering the spot to a friend!
If Family Sewing cancels a class for any reason, you will receive a FULL refund.
If you wish to cancel 21 days or more before the date of your class, you will receive a FULL
refund.
If you cancel 14-20 days before the date of your class, you will receive a refund in the form of store credit.
If you cancel 3-14 days before the date of your class, you will receive a refund in the form of store credit minus the Teacher Fee for the class.
If you do not cancel your class within 48 hours of the class start date and time OR you do not show up, you will forfeit your payment for that class.
If you register for an event or class with a guest educator, your class fee is nonrefundable.
